The Kwankwasiyya Movement has denied reports suggesting that its leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, held discussions with President Bola Tinubu over possible political defection arrangements.
The clarification was made on Friday by the spokesman of the movement, Habibu Mohammed, during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show.
According to Mohammed, Kwankwaso does not require pressure or persuasion from anyone if he chooses to work politically with the President.
He explained that both Kwankwaso and Tinubu have maintained a long-standing political relationship over the years.
Mohammed noted that the two politicians previously worked together during their time in the National Assembly and were among the key figures involved in the formation of the APC.
He also disclosed that President Tinubu had invited Kwankwaso for a private meeting during the early period of his administration to discuss possible collaboration.
According to him, Kwankwaso later made the meeting public but declined to work with the current administration.
“However, Kwankwaso declined to work with the Tinubu administration,” Mohammed stated.
He further revealed that before Kwankwaso’s reported move to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, the former Kano governor had already established a political working relationship with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
The clarification comes amid growing political realignments and speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
