Sarafadeen Alli has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary election in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The Oyo South senator secured 578,143 votes to defeat former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and another contestant in the exercise.
Adelabu polled 19,193 votes in the primary election.
The former minister had earlier resigned from his position in the Federal Government to contest for the Oyo State governorship ticket under the APC platform.
Following the exercise, Adelabu alleged that the primary election process was manipulated in several wards across the state.
Speaking with journalists after casting his vote at his ward on Thursday, the ex-minister claimed reports reaching him indicated widespread irregularities during the exercise.
“I must sound this note of warning that it is not this way in a lot of other wards,” Adelabu said.
“Reports reaching me state that there are a lot of gross misconducts in the other wards, ranging from various forms of infractions.”
According to him, some polling units allegedly conducted voting before the officially approved time while figures were allegedly altered in some locations.
“In some wards, they conducted the election hours before the appointed time and wrote the figures they liked,” he added.
The outcome of the primary election is expected to shape political alignments ahead of the 2027 governorship contest in Oyo State.
