The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has successfully completed the screening of 27 aspirants from each of the state’s 20 local government areas, ahead of its local government congress scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Smooth Screening Process

The exercise took place at the party’s state secretariat in Ogba, overseen by members of the Local Government Area Ward Congress Committee.

Barrister Mungji B. Salama, chairman of the committee, described the process as orderly and hitch-free, noting that no aspirant was disqualified. He added that any consensus arrangements reached among stakeholders would only require formal ratification.

“There is consensus if people agree. They will only need to ratify it,” Salama stated.

He also urged aspirants who did not qualify to remain loyal to the party, reminding them that opportunities would arise in future exercises.

Party Leadership Speaks

The Lagos APC Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, described the screening as the final phase of preparations for the local government congress.

He emphasised the party’s commitment to transparency and internal democracy, highlighting that APC consistently invites INEC officials and media representatives to observe its congresses.

“The content of the Electoral Act is very critical, so those who are going to be in charge at the LGA must be properly briefed,” Ojelabi added.

He also reminded aspirants that election into party offices is a call to serve the party, encouraging them to assess their capacity to strengthen grassroots structures rather than pursue personal advancement.

The Lagos APC now moves into the final stage, with aspirants ready for the congress that promises to be transparent, orderly, and in full compliance with party and electoral guidelines.
