A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led by Tanimu Turaki, is reportedly preparing to screen former President Goodluck Jonathan as the lone presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to reports, the screening exercise is scheduled to take place on Tuesday as part of the party’s ongoing preparations for the next electoral cycle.
Those reportedly expected to participate in the screening process include former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State governor Jonah Jang, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi, among others.
The development follows recent confirmation by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, that Jonathan successfully registered as a PDP member during the party’s fresh digital registration exercise reportedly conducted in line with directives from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Meanwhile, another PDP bloc reportedly backed by Seyi Makinde also announced plans to screen hundreds of aspirants for governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and state assembly positions across the country.
According to the party, the screening exercise will involve:
• 748 House of Representatives aspirants
• 198 senatorial aspirants
• 112 governorship aspirants
• 2,122 state assembly aspirants
A statement shared on the party’s official Facebook page disclosed that the nationwide screening exercise would commence on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
The latest development has intensified political conversations ahead of the 2027 elections, especially regarding the possible return of Goodluck Jonathan to active presidential politics.
