The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a viral video showing him driving recklessly before being involved in a serious road accident.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, and was live-streamed on social media, raising serious public safety concerns.
Police Describe Act as Dangerous and Suicidal
In a statement issued by the command, the police said Peller’s actions endangered not only his own life but also the lives of other road users. The conduct was described as a deliberate attempt at suicide and a grave breach of public safety.
Peller Taken Into Custody
The 20-year-old influencer has been taken into custody, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Police authorities confirmed that the findings of the investigation will be made public and that Peller will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law.
Police Warn Influencers and Content Creators
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers, content creators, and the general public against engaging in reckless or unlawful acts for online attention.
He stressed that such behavior would not be tolerated, adding that the police remain committed to enforcing traffic laws and ensuring public safety across Lagos State.

In an official release signed by SP Abimbola Adebisi, Police Public Relations Officer, the command stated:
“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained Habeeb Hamzat aka ‘Peller’ following a viral video in which he was seen driving recklessly while live-streaming, leading to a dangerous road crash. His action endangered his life and that of other road users and constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide.”
The statement further warned that any influencer or individual found promoting dangerous or unlawful conduct online will face the full weight of the law.

The police urged all road users to strictly comply with traffic regulations, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining peace, safety, and order across the state.
