Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has vowed to prove her sexual harassment allegations against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, in a court of law.

Her statement comes after Akpabio filed a ₦200 billion defamation lawsuit against her over claims she publicly accused him of sexually harassing her.

Akpoti confirmed receiving the court documents on Friday, declaring that the lawsuit has finally given her the opportunity to present evidence that the Senate Ethics and Privileges Committee allegedly denied her.

According to the Kogi Central lawmaker, the legal battle will allow her to demonstrate that she was indeed sexually harassed and that her refusal to submit to the alleged advances led to sustained political attacks against her.

Details of Akpabio’s Lawsuit

Court filings from the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory show that Senate President Akpabio is seeking:

  • ₦200 billion in damages

  • Public retractions

  • Apology broadcasts across major media outlets

  • Removal of all online materials containing the allegations

Akpabio claims that Akpoti’s interviews on television, radio, and social media portrayed him as a “sexual predator,” causing widespread public backlash and damaging his reputation.

A court order dated 6 November 2025 granted approval for Akpabio to serve the lawsuit via the Clerk of the National Assembly after direct service attempts failed.

What Happens Next

The case is now moving forward, setting the stage for what could become one of Nigeria’s most closely watched political and legal battles.
Both parties are expected to present extensive evidence and witness testimonies as the matter proceeds to full trial.
