Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) took to the streets in parts of northern Nigeria on Sunday to protest the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in alleged joint airstrikes by the United States and Israel.

The demonstrations were recorded in states including Niger State and Kano State, where protesters marched through major roads carrying Iranian flags and portraits of Khamenei.

Videos circulating online showed IMN members chanting anti-U.S. and anti-Israel slogans while condemning what they described as foreign aggression against Iran. The protests, though emotionally charged, were largely peaceful.

Participants expressed solidarity with Iran and anger over the reported killing, calling it an attack on Islam and a dangerous escalation in Middle East tensions.

In response to the protests, security agencies in some northern states were placed on alert. Authorities urged demonstrators to remain calm and peaceful, stressing the need to avoid violence or disruption of public order.

No major incidents were reported as of the time of filing this report.

The reported death of Ayatollah Khamenei — confirmed by Iranian state media and echoed by several international outlets — has triggered reactions far beyond Nigeria.

Protests and solidarity marches have also been reported in countries with significant Shia Muslim populations, including Pakistan, Iraq, and parts of Kashmir, where demonstrators condemned Western intervention and called for an end to military aggression.
