The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has dismissed allegations suggesting that the Nigerian military is undermining democratic authorities in the country.
The clarification was made by the Director of Defence Information, Tukur Gusau, in a statement issued in Abuja.
According to Gusau, the claims are false, misleading, and completely unfounded.
He stressed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains fully committed to constitutional order, democratic governance, and civilian authority.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain loyal to the Constitution and democratic institutions of the country,” the statement read.
“Any suggestion that the military is undermining democratic authorities is false, misleading and unfounded.”
Gusau explained that all military operations across different parts of the country are being conducted strictly under lawful directives and within the framework of national security responsibilities.
He also urged Nigerians to disregard misinformation capable of creating fear, confusion, or unnecessary panic among the public.
The Defence Headquarters further reaffirmed the military’s commitment to defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity while continuing to operate within the principles of democratic governance and constitutional rule.
