Former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, primary election for the Kogi Central Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The primary election reportedly took place on Monday and featured two other aspirants contesting alongside Bello.
The contenders included Momoh Obaro and Ibrahim Yakubu Adoke.
Bello’s victory comes after days of speculation and political tension within APC circles over reports that his screening process may have faced complications.
The rumours had earlier triggered uncertainty regarding his eligibility for the senatorial contest.
However, following the completion of the party primary, Bello emerged victorious and secured the APC ticket for the Kogi Central Senatorial District.
The development has already generated reactions among political observers and party supporters ahead of preparations for the 2027 elections.
Yahaya Bello previously served as governor of Kogi State from 2016 to 2024 and remains one of the influential political figures within the state’s APC structure.
