Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that residents of Abuja cannot honestly deny the impact of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly in the area of infrastructure development.
Wike made the remarks on Monday during his monthly media briefing in Abuja, where he highlighted ongoing projects and developments across the Federal Capital Territory.
The minister urged residents and Nigerians generally to set aside political sentiments when assessing the performance of the current administration.
According to him, while no government can claim to have solved every problem, the progress made in Abuja is visible and should be acknowledged objectively.
“Is it really just because people want to say they don’t feel the impact of this government?” Wike asked.
“I’m not saying the government has done everything. I’m not saying so. But if you are really a resident in Abuja, can you, in truth, say you don’t feel the impact of this government?”
The former Rivers State governor argued that political preferences should not prevent citizens from recognising developments taking place in the nation’s capital.
“Forget about your sentiment, forget about, ‘Oh, I want my village man to be President.’ If you really stay in Abuja, will you say this government has not made any impact in terms of infrastructure?” he added.
Wike pointed to ongoing road projects, urban renewal initiatives and other infrastructure developments being executed across the FCT as evidence of the administration’s commitment to improving the capital city.
The minister has repeatedly maintained that the Federal Government’s investments in infrastructure are transforming Abuja and improving the quality of life for residents.
His comments come amid continued political debate over the performance of the Tinubu administration, particularly as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum.
Supporters of the administration argue that infrastructure projects and economic reforms are laying the foundation for long-term growth, while critics continue to raise concerns over the economy, insecurity and the cost of living.
