Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Lagos on Sunday to brief President Bola Tinubu on the current security situation in Maiduguri, Borno State, following recent bomb explosions in the city.
The visit comes after a presidential directive that sent the Vice President to the Borno State capital for an on the spot assessment after multiple explosions suspected to be linked to Boko Haram insurgents.
During his visit to Maiduguri, Shettima met with victims of the attacks, bereaved families, community leaders, and security officials as part of a condolence and fact finding mission to evaluate the impact of the incidents.
Sources said the Vice President is expected to present his findings and recommendations to the President during the meeting in Lagos.
Maiduguri was recently hit by a series of explosions that resulted in casualties and injuries, raising fresh concerns about security in the North East region.
After the briefing, Shettima is also expected to lead a delegation of serving governors on a courtesy visit to President Tinubu.
The visit will include Eid el Fitr greetings to the President and discussions on strengthening cooperation between the federal and state governments, with focus on improving security coordination and emergency response across the country.
