Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially announced his defection to the Accord Party, days after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Adeleke made the declaration on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Osun State Government House, in the presence of national and state executives of the Accord Party.

The governor revealed that he had secretly joined the party over a month ago — on November 6 — as part of his plan to contest for a second term in the 2026 governorship election.

According to him, the decision followed weeks of consultations with key stakeholders and opinion leaders.

“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. Stakeholders and residents of Osun State are aware of why we are taking this important decision,” he said.

Adeleke noted that the Accord Party’s philosophy of welfarism aligns strongly with his administration’s focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.

“We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State. Our party is here to sustain the delivery of good governance in our dear state,” he added.

The governor emphasized that his administration remains committed to inclusive leadership, infrastructural development, improved social services, and broad-based welfare initiatives.

Adeleke also urged residents across all zones of the state to support the new political platform as Osun moves toward another election cycle.

His defection comes shortly after he exited the PDP, citing prolonged internal crisis and leadership instability at the national level.

Adeleke’s move to the Accord Party is widely seen as a strategic realignment ahead of the 2026 polls, as he seeks to consolidate his political base and continue his governance agenda in Osun State.
