Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has voiced concern over the worsening economic hardship across the country, urging leaders to acknowledge the struggles faced by ordinary citizens.

Speaking during an interview on the Inside The Box podcast, the comedian noted that the growing anger among Nigerians is largely fueled by hunger and the rising cost of living.

According to him, government officials must be honest about the pain caused by ongoing economic reforms, rather than downplaying the situation.

“Nigerians are hungry, and hungry people are angry people. I feel the pain too. I hate when we try to switch such things under the carpet, which is what politicians do. I don’t like it.

“Let us acknowledge the people’s pain and let them know that this reform is coming with this pain, but hopefully there will be a relief at the end,” he said.

Seyi Law also shared his personal experience with the economic downturn, revealing how the depreciation of the naira has significantly affected his family’s finances.

He explained that supporting his wife and children, who live in the United Kingdom, has become far more expensive due to the high exchange rate.

“My family has been in the UK since 2019. For every naira that I change to pounds, it costs me N2000. It wasn’t what it was costing me before. It it means if I was spending N2m before, I have to spend N5m, so it comes with pain,” Seyi said.

The comedian, however, expressed optimism that the current difficulties will eventually yield positive results if leaders remain transparent and empathetic to the people’s suffering.
