Troops of Operation MESA, under the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, successfully rescued seven kidnapped victims during a late-night operation in Tsanyawa Local Government Area, Kano State.

The operation was launched after residents of Yankamaye Cikin Gari raised the alarm around 11:00 p.m. on Friday, reporting bandit activity in the community.

Coordinated Military Response

According to a statement issued by Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the troops, working in coordination with the Nigerian Air Force and Police, swiftly moved to the affected area, engaged the bandits, and successfully freed the abducted victims.

Tragically, the attackers had killed a 60-year-old woman before the troops arrived. Following the initial engagement, soldiers pursued the armed men along their withdrawal route toward Rimaye, engaging them with a high volume of fire, forcing the bandits to abandon the captives.

Ongoing Security Efforts

While seven victims were rescued, four others remain unaccounted for. The fleeing bandits reportedly escaped toward Kankia Local Government Area, Katsina State, and security forces are continuing efforts to track their movement.

The Commander of 3 Brigade commended the troops for their bravery and swift response and urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to aid security agencies in eliminating banditry in border communities.

Conclusion

The successful rescue operation by the Nigerian Army highlights the importance of intelligence-driven and coordinated efforts between military and security agencies in combating kidnapping and banditry in Northern Nigeria. Citizens are encouraged to collaborate with security forces to ensure safety and stability in their communities.
