The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that all schools nationwide have been directed to shut down on November 24, 2025.

In a statement on Saturday, the ministry described the viral announcement as false, misleading, and not from any authorised government source.

According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, the alleged directive did not originate from the Federal Government, the Ministry of Education, any State Ministry of Education, or any recognised security agency.

Boriowo urged parents, students, and the general public to disregard the information and avoid amplifying unverified reports.
She noted:
“Any announcement, advisory, or notice coming from unofficial or unverified sources should be ignored. Members of the public are advised to always verify the authenticity of information before circulating it to curb the spread of misinformation.”

The Ministry emphasised that only official statements from the Federal Government, the Ministry of Education, State Governments, and recognised security agencies should be considered valid.

Background

The clarification comes after the Federal Government ordered the temporary closure of 41 federal secondary schools located in high-risk areas affected by recent abductions in Niger and Kebbi States.
Several states, including Kwara, Plateau, Katsina, and Niger, also shut down schools due to escalating insecurity, while Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, directed all public and private schools to deboard their students immediately.

Conclusion

The Federal Ministry of Education has stressed that no nationwide shutdown has been declared, warning the public to remain cautious and rely strictly on verified information. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safety of students and maintaining clear communication through official channels.
