A female police officer, W/Inspector Alonge Bridget, attached to the Sabo Police Division, Yaba, Lagos State, has petitioned the Kayode Egbetokun, alleging physical assault, threats to her life, sustained harassment, and professional misconduct by a senior officer at the division.

The petition is directed at the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, requesting urgent intervention and protection.

Allegations Against Divisional Traffic Officer

In the petition, Alonge accused the Divisional Traffic Officer (DTO), W/DSP Josephine Okeme, of repeatedly intimidating and assaulting her while on duty and in uniform.

First Alleged Incident – February 12, 2025

According to Alonge, the first incident occurred shortly after her posting to the traffic unit. She alleged that W/DSP Okeme hit her on the chest, leaving her unwell for nearly two weeks.

She stated that she sought medical treatment during this period and attached medical reports to her petition as supporting evidence.

Second Alleged Incident – November 17, 2025

Alonge further claimed that a second confrontation occurred on November 17, 2025, at about 5:20 p.m., after she had been redeployed from the traffic unit to the Divisional Crime Branch (DCB) by the Divisional Police Officer, W/CSP Comfort Alabi.

She alleged that W/DSP Okeme stormed the DCB office, slapped her without provocation, and issued threats of further violence.

In the process of attempting to flee the scene, Alonge said she injured her hand, which later became swollen.

Alleged Harassment Beyond the Workplace

The petitioner also alleged that the harassment extended beyond official duties. According to her:

  • She was allegedly trailed to bus stops after work hours
  • She was verbally abused in public
  • Commercial bus conductors were allegedly discouraged from offering her transport

Previous Reports and Internal Actions

Alonge said she initially reported the matter to the then Area ‘C’ Commander, ACP Ayoola Oladunni, who summoned the accused officer.

She claimed that:

  • No misconduct was established against her
  • She was temporarily retained at the Area Command
  • She was later returned to Sabo Division at the request of the DPO, who reportedly commended her dedication to duty

However, she alleged that upon her return, the victimisation continued, prompting her to escalate the matter through the Lagos State Police Annex in Obalende, formally seeking the intervention of the Inspector-General of Police.

Fresh Complaint and Alleged Intimidation

Alonge further alleged that on December 19, 2025, W/DSP Okeme verbally abused her in her office and later reported her to the DPO over an alleged failure to offer greetings, resulting in an order that she be queried.

She said attempts to resolve the issue internally yielded no outcome, despite an internal recommendation by the Officer-in-Charge of the Provost Unit calling for an amicable settlement.

Appeal to the Inspector-General of Police

The officer is now appealing directly to the Inspector-General of Police, alleging that the senior officer had openly boasted that no consequences would follow, even if Alonge were to suffer serious harm.

As of the time of filing this report:

  • The Nigeria Police Force has not issued an official response
  • The allegations remain unproven and under review
  • The accused officer has not publicly responded

The matter raises renewed concerns about internal accountability, officer safety, and disciplinary processes within the police force, particularly regarding complaints involving senior officers.
