Port Harcourt, Rivers State – Daewoo Engineering and Construction Nigeria (DECN) Limited has announced the full resolution of recent concerns surrounding tax deductions affecting some categories of its workers at the NLNG Train 7 project site in Bonny, Rivers State.

In a statement released over the weekend by Bernard Ewubare, the company’s Community Affairs and Security Manager, DECN confirmed that all issues related to the tax deductions had been thoroughly investigated, explained, and successfully resolved in collaboration with the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service (RIRS).

“All matters concerning tax deductions at the NLNG Train 7 Project have now been conclusively addressed and clarified, following a joint review with officials of the RIRS,” Ewubare stated.

RIRS Confirms Daewoo’s Tax Compliance

According to the company, the Rivers State tax authority has verified that Daewoo’s tax compliance record is fully up to date. The review also confirmed that all tax deductions, remittances, and filings were properly executed in line with Nigerian tax laws and due process.

Ewubare further explained that the RIRS authenticated all Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) and Tax Clearance Certificates (TCCs) issued to DECN employees as genuine and valid.

“There are no outstanding tax liabilities or irregularities associated with Daewoo Engineering and Construction Nigeria Limited,” the statement emphasized.

Workshop on Tax Verification and Transparency

To reinforce accountability and prevent similar misunderstandings, DECN organized a one-day training session for workers, guiding them through how to independently verify their tax payments and compliance status via the RIRS online platform.

Ewubare noted that this initiative was part of the company’s broader commitment to transparency, due process, and corporate governance.

“We remain dedicated to fostering a transparent and trustworthy working environment while continuing to deliver successfully on the NLNG Train 7 Project,” he said.

Appreciation to Stakeholders

Daewoo Nigeria expressed appreciation to the Rivers State Internal Revenue Service, Bonny Local Government Council, Welders and Fitters Association, the media, and other stakeholders for their cooperation and understanding throughout the process.

Background: Earlier Workers’ Protest

It would be recalled that some welders and fitters at the NLNG Train 7 project had recently raised concerns over missing tax receipts and identification numbers, which briefly led to tension at the site.
The situation, which could have escalated into a major industrial crisis, was quickly brought under control through the company’s swift intervention.

While a few company assets were damaged during the unrest, Daewoo assured affected workers that all tax deductions had been duly remitted to the appropriate government bodies and that no fraudulent activity occurred.

“Daewoo has consistently complied with both state and federal tax obligations and remains committed to upholding transparency in all financial dealings,” Ewubare reaffirmed.
