BON Bread has become one of the most talked about topics online after reports emerged that the company filed a ₦50 million defamation lawsuit against a provisions store owner and TikToker identified as Love Dooshimaa.

The controversy began after the woman shared a viral TikTok video showing a loaf of bread she claimed had remained in her shop for over two months without showing signs of spoilage.

In the video, the bread reportedly still looked soft, fresh, and free from visible mould, leading her to question what ingredients or preservatives may have been used.

Although she did not initially mention any brand name directly, BON Bread later identified the product as theirs and reportedly took legal action.

According to reports, the company first contacted her privately and requested that the video be removed. When the content remained online, legal documents were allegedly served demanding ₦50 million in damages over claims of reputational and financial harm.

The case has since generated massive reactions across social media, with many Nigerians criticising the lawsuit and describing it as an attempt to silence consumer concerns.

Others defended the bakery, arguing that product shelf life can depend on storage conditions, packaging, preservatives approved by regulators, and sales environment.

The company’s founder and chief executive, Maria Abdulkadir, has reportedly responded by defending the quality of the brand’s products and questioning how a loaf of bread remained unsold in one shop for such a long period.

The incident has now expanded into a wider national conversation about food safety, additives, product transparency, and how companies respond to criticism online.

Some Nigerians have also called on regulatory agencies to independently review the claims and reassure consumers.

As of the time of this report, no final court decision or hearing date has been publicly confirmed, while debate around the case continues to grow online.
