Nollywood actor Abiodun Ayoyinka has revealed that playing the famous character Papa Ajasco brought him popularity but also limited his opportunities in the movie industry.
The actor made the disclosure during an interview with media personality Lucky Udu, where he spoke about the challenges he has faced since becoming widely known for the role.
“That particular character (Papa Ajasco) has been registered by Wale Adenuga… Things have never been okay for years back now – no car of my own, no house of my own…”

Character Rights Belong To Wale Adenuga
Ayoyinka explained that the character Papa Ajasco belongs to veteran producer Wale Adenuga, which means he cannot use the name or costume without permission.
He said this has made it difficult for him to get jobs outside the original production.
βI donβt have the right to use the name Papa Ajasco unless I take permission. I canβt even use the costume, and because of that I have had limited opportunities,β he said.
Fame Did Not Bring Financial Stability
The actor admitted that life has not been easy despite the fame he gained from the popular TV series Papa Ajasco & Company.
He said he still struggles financially and does not own a car or a house.
According to him, many producers only want him to appear as Papa Ajasco and not as himself, which has affected his career growth.
Difficulty Building Identity Outside The Role
Ayoyinka said the character became so popular that people now find it hard to see him in any other role.
He noted that while the role made him famous, it also prevented him from building a wider acting career.
His comments have sparked reactions online, with many fans expressing sympathy and calling for more support for veteran actors in Nigeria.
