A delegation from the United States Africa Command, AFRICOM, has visited the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, in Maiduguri as part of efforts to strengthen counterterrorism cooperation within the Lake Chad region.
The delegation, led by Cameron Chen, Deputy Director of Operations/Cyber at AFRICOM, arrived at Maimalari Cantonment on May 20.
They were received by the Deputy Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, O.F. Akinboyewa.
During the visit, the delegation received detailed briefings on the current security situation in Nigeria’s North-East region as well as ongoing counterterrorism and counter-insurgency operations across the theatre.
Discussions reportedly focused on strengthening intelligence sharing, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance support, logistics coordination, interdiction efforts, and broader operational cooperation within the Lake Chad Basin.
The delegation also reviewed ongoing multinational operations targeted at degrading terrorist networks and disrupting logistics channels used by insurgent groups operating within the region.
According to security sources, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to sustained collaboration under existing counterterrorism and counter-insurgency frameworks.
Preparations for the upcoming Operation Lake Sanity III were also discussed during the engagement.
The visit was described as successful and conducted without incident, with both sides emphasizing that international cooperation remains critical in sustaining pressure on terrorist organisations operating in the North-East and surrounding areas.
