Veteran Nigerian singer Beautiful Nubia has publicly called out fellow musician Yinka Ayefele and another artiste, BBO, over alleged copyright infringement.
In a post shared on X, the folk singer claimed both artists copied the melody of his original song “Seven Lifes.”
According to him, Yinka Ayefele’s 2012 track “My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti)” and BBO’s recent song “Amin” both drew directly from his work.
He wrote that it is troubling that Nigerian musicians — especially gospel artists — still fail to respect copyright and originality.
The post quickly sparked debate online, with mixed reactions from other X users.
One user disagreed with the allegation, arguing that in music and literature, creativity often builds on existing works. He referenced the concept of intertextuality, saying every melody is influenced by past sounds.
Another user said he personally noticed similarities when he first heard BBO’s “Amin.”
Some others also defended the accused artists, stating that musicians naturally draw inspiration from what they listen to and that similarities do not always mean deliberate copying.
One commenter added that BBO had previously said he got the inspiration for “Amin” during his NYSC days, long before the controversy.
