Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Kwara State to assess the deadly attack in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area, which reportedly claimed over 100 lives.
According to a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Shettima is in the state on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reassure residents that the Federal Government will pursue the perpetrators.
He said the Vice President is conveying Tinubu’s “strong assurances that the Federal Government will not relent until those responsible for the attack are tracked, apprehended, and brought to justice.”
Visit follows Tinubu’s approval of army battalion
The Vice President’s visit comes shortly after President Tinubu received a security briefing from Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, at the State House in Abuja.
Following the briefing, Tinubu approved the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama and also announced the commencement of a military operation tagged “Operation Savannah Shield.”
Attack happened on February 3
Reports said the attack was carried out on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, when armed assailants launched a coordinated assault on Woro and nearby Nuku communities.
Residents alleged that the attackers had earlier sent warnings claiming they were coming to “preach” and pressure villagers into abandoning allegiance to the Nigerian state in favour of extremist demands — a move the communities resisted.
