Former First Lady Aisha Buhari has revealed that she will not remarry following the death of her husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The disclosure was made during the unveiling of Dr. Charles Omole’s biography, From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, held at the State House, Abuja.

“One Husband Was Enough”

According to the biography, Aisha Buhari described her decision as pragmatic rather than moral, explaining that her responsibilities as a grandmother played a major role in shaping her choice.

“It is not a moral pronouncement so much as a pragmatic one: she has grandchildren; one husband was enough,” the book noted.

Her stance challenges long-standing cultural expectations that often pressure widows to remarry or judge them harshly for personal life choices. Instead, Aisha Buhari has chosen to define her future on her own terms.

Plans for a Quieter Life

The former First Lady also plans to step away from the political spotlight, focusing more on family life, philanthropy, and personal travel. She intends to spend quality time with her grandchildren, ensuring she remains actively involved in their upbringing.

Despite retreating from politics, Aisha Buhari will continue to oversee the Aisha Buhari Foundation as well as her cardiovascular and medical centre in Kano, which has reportedly completed over 200 medical procedures.

The biography describes her approach as a balance of domestic commitment and global engagement, maintaining influence through quieter, more sustainable initiatives.

Life After the Presidency

Aisha Buhari was married to the late president for 35 years, and the couple had five children together. The biography portrays her decision not to remarry as a personal reset, signaling a shift away from public political life while continuing to contribute meaningfully through community service and philanthropy.

Her post-presidency chapter is expected to focus on family, care, and social impact, reflecting her desire to remain influential without the pressures of public office.
