The Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, has resumed Sunday worship just days after a violent attack that claimed two lives and led to the abduction of 38 congregants.
Church Members Return Despite Fear
A video circulating on social media shows worshippers seated calmly as the service progressed. Despite the trauma of the recent incident, members gathered to pray, sing, and listen to their pastor’s message of hope.
The community had been thrown into mourning last week after suspected terrorists stormed the church, shooting sporadically before whisking away dozens of worshippers. Two members were killed during the attack.
Pastor Encourages Worshippers to Stay Strong
During the sermon, the pastor urged members not to live in fear, reminding them of the Christian promise of eternal life. He encouraged the congregation to remain steadfast in their faith despite the tragedy.
He said:
“He has promised us eternal life; let us not fear death. Wherever or whenever it comes, do not deny Jesus. If you remain faithful, His promises are yours.”
The pastor also assured the members that divine justice would prevail:
“Those criminals will face the judgment of God. God desires repentance from all, and that may be the only reason the second coming of Jesus is delayed.”
Fallen Worshippers Described as Martyrs
The clergyman further honored the two members who lost their lives during the attack, describing them as martyrs who “died at the foot of Jesus.”
According to him,
“Anyone killed for the sake of the Gospel is a martyr. The Bible makes it clear that the blood of martyrs cries out for vengeance.”
His words were aimed at comforting the congregation, many of whom were still shaken by the trauma of the invasion.
Community Shows Resilience
The decision to hold Sunday service so soon after the incident has been widely seen as an act of courage and unity among the Eruku Christian community.
Despite the ongoing search for the abducted victims, worshippers gathered peacefully, praying for healing, strength, and the safe return of their loved ones.
