The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared a powerful and emotional testimony revealing how he handled expensive gifts during the early days of his ministry.
Speaking at a church thanksgiving service, the revered cleric recounted moments that tested his faith, humility, and understanding of divine instructions.
When a Mercedes Benz Shocked Him
Pastor Adeboye revealed that while he was still commuting by public transport, an elderly woman surprised him by gifting him a Mercedes Benz.
The gesture left him confused and worried.
“I almost said, ‘Alakoba wo le leyi?’ I hope this one is not trying to get me into trouble,” he recalled.
Unsure of what to do with such a luxury gift, he parked the car and deliberately avoided using it.
A Divine Warning in a Dream
According to Pastor Adeboye, his decision to reject the gift led to a divine correction. He explained that God warned him in a dream for refusing the woman’s generosity.
“Why are you robbing my daughter of her blessing? She sowed a seed, and you are not allowing the seed to germinate,” he quoted God as saying.
Following the warning, he decided to give the car to his late deputy, Pastor Abiodun, despite being advised to enjoy the gift himself.
Three More Mercedes Benz Cars Arrive
In what he described as astonishing, Pastor Adeboye revealed that shortly after giving away the first car, he received three additional Mercedes Benz vehicles.
While still contemplating what to do with them, another unexpected event occurred.
The Night a Six-Door Limousine Arrived at 2am
The cleric recounted how a man arrived at his house around 2:00am, driving a rare six-door Mercedes limousine, claiming God instructed him to deliver it immediately.
“I said to God, ‘Even if I die and they put me in this car, I will wake up. Will you permit me to sell the car?’” Pastor Adeboye said.
After praying and receiving divine approval, he made a bold decision.
Why He Sold the Limousine
Rather than keep the luxury vehicle, Pastor Adeboye said he sold the limousine and used the proceeds for kingdom work.
“I remember I sold it and used the money to buy motorcycles for my pastors,” he concluded.
The testimony has since inspired many, highlighting Pastor Adeboye’s emphasis on service, sacrifice, and purpose over luxury, especially during the formative years of his ministry.
