The United States government on Saturday announced drug trafficking and terrorism-l related charges against Venezuela’s President, Nicolas Maduro, following a major military operation involving the South American country.

The announcement came after U.S. authorities claimed that Maduro was captured during a
large-scale military strike and subsequently flown out of Venezuela alongside his wife.

Trump Confirms Operation

In a statement shared on social media, former U.S. President Donald Trump said the
operation was carried out in collaboration with American law enforcement agencies.

According to the statement, the military action resulted in the apprehension of the Venezuelan
leader, marking a significant escalation in long standing tensions between the two countries.

Planned Media Briefing

Trump further disclosed that a press conference would be held at 11:00 a.m. (GMT 16:00) at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, where he is currently spending the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

He said additional details surrounding the charges, the military operation, and the circumstances of the capture would be made public during the briefing.

The development has triggered widespread reactions internationally, as observers await official confirmation and further clarification from U.S. and Venezuelan authorities.
