The Federal Government has praised Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele following the historic box office success of her latest movie, Behind the Scenes, which has officially shattered long-standing industry records.
The commendation came through the National Orientation Agency (NOA), which described the feat as a major win for Nigeria’s creative industry and a clear sign of Nollywood’s growing global influence.
Behind the Scenes Crosses ₦2.1 Billion at Nigerian Box Office
According to official figures, Behind the Scenes has grossed over ₦2.1 billion in Nigerian cinemas, making it the first Nollywood film ever to cross the ₦2 billion mark.
The movie has also recorded impressive international earnings, pulling in more than $111,000 in Canada and about $190,000 across North America, further cementing its global appeal.
Reacting to the milestone, the NOA stated:
“From Lagos to Toronto, from cinemas in Abuja to theatres overseas — this movie had everyone locked in.”

The agency also revealed that Akindele has now become the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years, a rare achievement that underscores her dominance in the industry.
