Obi Describes Incident as WorrisomeMessage of CondolenceBroader Safety Concerns

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed deep concern following the road accident involving former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua in Makun, Ogun State.

The Nigerian-British boxer was reportedly involved in the crash along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, an incident that claimed two lives and left Joshua with minor injuries.

Obi Describes Incident as Worrisome

Reacting to the development, Obi described the accident as particularly troubling, especially as it occurred while Joshua was in Nigeria. He also raised concerns over reports suggesting that an ambulance was not immediately available to transport the boxer to the hospital after the crash.

While wishing Joshua a quick recovery, Obi extended his condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives.

Message of Condolence

In a statement shared publicly, Obi wrote:

“It is with deep concern that I received the news of the road accident involving former heavyweight boxing champion, Mr. @anthonyjoshua, in Makun, Ogun State.

It is particularly worrisome that this incident occurred while he was in Nigeria. Many of us are also compelled to reflect on reports that no ambulance was readily available to convey him to the hospital.

May God Almighty grant him a speedy recovery, and I extend my deepest sympathies to the families of the two lives lost. May God grant them comfort and grant the departed eternal rest.”

Broader Safety Concerns

Obi’s reaction has added to ongoing public discussions about road safety and emergency response infrastructure on major Nigerian highways, particularly the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, which has recorded multiple accidents over the years.

As investigations into the crash continue, authorities are expected to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
