Social media commentator VeryDarkMan has reacted to the latest video released by kidnapped teachers and students from Oyo State, expressing frustration over the government’s handling of the crisis.
In a video shared online, the activist said Nigerians may have to take matters into their own hands if authorities fail to secure the release of the victims within the next few days.
According to him, a public fundraising campaign could become necessary to facilitate negotiations for the victims’ freedom.
“If in the next four days the federal government are not able to bring these people out, we’ll have no other option than to do the first crowdfunding to get them out,” he said.
VeryDarkMan further suggested that citizens may eventually be forced to engage directly with the kidnappers if government efforts do not produce results.
“We’ll be the ones to negotiate with the terrorists,” he added.
His comments came shortly after another emotional video surfaced online showing Rachael Alamu, the principal of Community High School, Esele, appealing to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Seyi Makinde to pursue dialogue rather than force in efforts to rescue the captives.
In the video, Mrs. Alamu alleged that a recent security operation had worsened their situation and put some of the hostages at greater risk.
The kidnapping incident, which involved teachers and pupils from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has continued to generate widespread concern across the country.
VDM’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions online. While some Nigerians supported his concern for the safety of the victims, others questioned the practicality and implications of private citizens negotiating directly with kidnappers.
Meanwhile, calls continue to grow for security agencies and government authorities to intensify efforts aimed at securing the safe release of the remaining abducted teachers and students.
“I can’t bear seeing this video anymore. The situation of these school teachers and students kidnapped in Oyo State two weeks ago is really heartbreaking.”
