Seyi Makinde has signed Executive Order No. 1 of 2026 aimed at regulating associations, organisations, and groups offering security and allied services across Oyo State.
The development was disclosed in a statement shared on the governor’s official page.
According to the statement, the executive order was introduced to ensure that all groups involved in security-related operations within the state function under clear regulations approved by the government.
The Oyo State Government explained that the move is designed to strengthen public safety, improve accountability, and promote compliance with the rule of law.
Makinde stated that the order would also help maintain peace and public order across communities within the state.
The governor additionally addressed the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area, where gunmen abducted teachers and pupils from schools within the area.
According to the statement, security agencies are continuing rescue efforts to secure the release of the victims.
“Security agencies are working round the clock to ensure the safe return of the children and teachers kidnapped in Oriire LGA,” the statement read.
The latest executive order comes amid rising security concerns in parts of Oyo State following recent attacks, kidnappings, and growing public calls for tighter regulation of local security operations and vigilante activities.
