The Lagos State Government has announced the immediate closure of the outbound carriageway of Eko Bridge for emergency inspection and repair works.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the commissioner, the closure will take effect from Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
The affected section covers the route from Apongbon to Ijora Olopa outbound toward Lagos Island.
Osiyemi explained that the temporary shutdown became necessary to enable urgent structural inspections and maintenance aimed at ensuring the safety of motorists and preserving the integrity of the bridge.
He advised road users heading toward Lagos Island to use the Third Mainland Bridge as an alternative route during the repair period.
The commissioner, however, clarified that the inward Lagos Island carriageway would remain open throughout the exercise.
According to him, traffic management and security personnel will be deployed around diversion points and alternative routes to minimise congestion and maintain order.
He appealed to motorists and residents to cooperate with traffic officials and remain patient while the repairs continue.
The Lagos State Government said the intervention forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain critical infrastructure and improve public safety across the state’s transport network.
