The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State.
The confirmation followed his screening during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
Lawmakers approved the nomination after considering the report of an ad hoc committee set up to examine his credentials and suitability for office.
The report was presented by the Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the committee, Muhammad Bello.
According to the Assembly, Garo’s nomination became necessary following the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
The lawmakers stated that the process was conducted in line with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the House to confirm a replacement nominee when the office becomes vacant.
During the screening, Garo reportedly answered questions on his educational background, professional experience, governance knowledge, and plans for the development of Kano State.
The committee also said his credentials were thoroughly verified.
Lawmakers noted that the nominee demonstrated a clear understanding of the responsibilities of the office and expressed readiness to support the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Following the committee’s recommendation, the House adopted the report and confirmed him as deputy governor.
The development marks a major political shift in Kano and is expected to strengthen the current administration ahead of future political contests.
