The family of Michael Oyedokun, the Oyo State teacher abducted and later killed by terrorists, has expressed deep grief over his death, revealing that he died without a child after more than 10 years of marriage.
Oyedokun was among teachers kidnapped during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The attacks reportedly targeted Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, where several teachers were abducted by armed men.
Other affected schools included Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and LA Primary School in Ogbomoso.
The attacks also claimed the lives of an assistant headmaster, Joel Adesiyan, and a commercial motorcyclist.
Following the incident, the Oyo State Government ordered the closure of schools in the affected areas while security agencies intensified rescue operations.
A disturbing video later surfaced online showing Oyedokun tied up and speaking under duress before he was eventually killed.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Ebeni Adediran described the deceased as a calm, humble, and dedicated teacher who spent over two decades in the education sector.
According to the family, Oyedokun worked as a teacher for about 21 years and was recently transferred back to his hometown after previously serving in Oke Ogun.
“He was a calm person and he did not like violence,” the family said.
“He was very accommodating and since he came back to our community, he always visited his parents at least once within 15 days or every weekend.”
The family described his death as an irreplaceable loss due to his close relationship with relatives and members of the community.
“He was a good man in our family and this is why his death is a big loss to us,” they added.
The family further disclosed that one of the most painful aspects of the tragedy was that Oyedokun died without leaving behind a child despite being married for more than 10 years.
“And the most painful part is that he did not leave any child behind. He had a wife but they did not have any child,” the family lamented.
The relatives also appealed to Nigerians to stop circulating graphic videos and images of the deceased online, saying the repeated sharing of the content has continued to traumatize the family emotionally.
“We truly appreciate the love, concern, and sympathy shown towards our family during this painful time,” the statement added.
“However, the continuous circulation of those videos and images is deeply traumatizing for us as a family.”
