President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs following the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar.
Tuggar reportedly stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Before her new appointment, Odumegwu-Ojukwu served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
In a statement issued by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu also nominated Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending Senate confirmation.
Until his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
He is described as a seasoned diplomat with over 30 years of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service.
His career includes roles as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.
The presidency said the appointments are part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy framework and improve global engagement.
Tinubu urged the new appointees to prioritise national interest, promote economic diplomacy, and enhance Nigeria’s international partnerships.
He also tasked them with supporting regional stability and protecting the welfare of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
The appointments are expected to shape Nigeria’s diplomatic direction as the country prepares for key political and economic engagements in the coming years.
