Nollywood actor James Olanrewaju, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has spoken publicly for the first time since regaining freedom, sharing his side of the controversy that led to his conviction.
The actor made the remarks during an interview on Talk to B, a programme hosted by actress Abiola Adebayo, where he said he believes many people misunderstood the events surrounding the case.
According to him, the situation began after he declined a personal request connected to comedian Damilola Adekoya, known as Princess. He claimed the disagreement later developed into the case that led to his arrest and conviction, insisting that he felt the incident was planned against him.
Baba Ijesha also alleged that some individuals later visited him while he was in prison and apologised, claiming they had been influenced to testify against him. He did not provide further details to support the claim.
Speaking about actress Iyabo Ojo, the actor said he felt hurt by her reaction during the period of the case. He stated that he had known her for many years and said she once trusted him enough to allow him care for her children when they were younger.
The actor maintained that he never had any inappropriate intentions towards her and expressed disappointment over how the situation affected their relationship.
Baba Ijesha was convicted in 2022 over the assault of a minor linked to Princess and served his jail term before he was released in 2025 after completing his sentence.
He also spoke about his experience in prison, saying the period was difficult but helped him reflect on his life. He thanked those who stood by him during the trial and throughout his time in custody.
