The Association of Table Water Producers in Kano State has announced a new price increase for sachet water, popularly called pure water, due to rising production costs.

According to the association, the price of a bag of sachet water has increased from N220 to a minimum of N300 across the state.

Producers Blame High Cost Of Materials

Public Relations Officer of the association, Anas Idris Hassan, said the decision was taken after production expenses became too high for producers to continue at the old price.

He explained that the cost of packaging materials, fuel, and gas has increased sharply.

  • Printing film now costs about N3,700
  • Gas and fuel cost about N1,500 per litre
  • Electricity shortage forcing factories to use generators

He said the situation made the price adjustment unavoidable.

Industry Could Collapse Without Increase

Chairman of ATWAP in Kano, Ahmad Bala Hudu, said the increase was necessary to prevent the shutdown of sachet water factories.

He noted that many producers were already struggling to stay in business because of high operating costs.

Despite the price increase, the association warned producers not to reduce quality.

Hudu said all factories must continue using proper purification methods, including reverse osmosis and approved treatment systems.

He added that inspections will continue in partnership with health authorities, and any producer who fails to meet safety standards will face legal action.

The association asked residents to show understanding, especially as the price change comes during the Ramadan period, when demand for drinking water is usually high.

They assured the public that the adjustment is meant to keep production running and ensure safe drinking water remains available.
