IMG 9557The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2025 Second Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates.

The announcement was confirmed on Monday by the council’s National Office in Lagos, bringing relief — and tension — to thousands of candidates across Nigeria who sat for the examination.

2025 CB-WASSCE Statistics: How Did Candidates Perform?

According to WAEC, a total of 69,604 candidates registered for the 2025 second series examination — representing a 1.8% increase compared to the 68,342 candidates recorded in 2024.

Out of those registered:

  • 65,752 candidates sat for the examination
  • Exams were conducted across 370 centres nationwide

Performance Breakdown

Here’s how candidates performed:

  • 51.69% (33,989 candidates) obtained credits and above in at least five subjects (with or without English and Mathematics).
  • 42.17% (27,727 candidates) secured credits in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics — the key requirement for most university admissions and employment opportunities in Nigeria.

Gender Performance Analysis

Among candidates who achieved five credits including English and Mathematics:

  • 13,416 were male (48.39%)
  • 14,311 were female (51.61%)

The figures show a slight performance edge for female candidates in this year’s second series examination.

Inclusivity: Special Needs Candidates Not Left Out

WAEC confirmed that the 2025 examination accommodated candidates with special needs, including:

  • Visually impaired candidates
  • Hearing-impaired candidates
  • Candidates living with albinism

Special provisions were made to ensure fairness and accessibility throughout the examination process.

1,899 Results Withheld Over Alleged Malpractice

While many candidates celebrated success, WAEC revealed that 1,899 candidates (2.89%) had their results withheld due to suspected cases of examination malpractice.

The council stated that investigations are ongoing and that affected candidates will be notified once decisions are finalized.

How To Check 2025 WAEC Private Candidates Results

Candidates can check their results through the official WAEC Direct Portal:
Visit: www.waecdirect.org

After checking results, candidates can:

  • Access digital certificates via www.waec.org
  • Apply for hard copy certificates through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal (e-Certman) at certrequest.waec.ng

What This Means for Private Candidates

The release of the 2025 Second Series CB-WASSCE results gives private candidates a clearer view of their academic standing.

While a significant number achieved the benchmark of five credits including English and Mathematics, the withheld results and performance gap indicate ongoing challenges in maintaining examination integrity and improving nationwide outcomes.

As WAEC continues to strengthen monitoring and digital examination systems, stakeholders are hopeful for improved performance and reduced malpractice cases in future series.
