President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of an Army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly overnight attack on Worro community by suspected terrorists.
The President also approved the appointment of a field commander and directed the immediate launch of a military operation tagged “Operation Savanna Shield.”
Onanuga Confirms Deployment
The directive was disclosed on Wednesday by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the battalion will lead efforts to contain the attackers and protect vulnerable communities.
Tinubu Condemns Attack
Tinubu described the assault as “cowardly and beastly,” stating that the attackers deliberately targeted innocent civilians.
He added that the victims were killed after resisting attempts to indoctrinate them with extremist ideology.
Relief and Prosecution
The President directed relevant federal and state agencies to coordinate relief support for affected residents.
He also vowed that those responsible would be tracked, arrested, and prosecuted.
Condolences
Tinubu condoled with the families of the victims and the people of Kwara State, while assuring residents of Kaiama and nearby communities that the Federal Government remains committed to restoring security and preventing a repeat of such violence.
