A tragic medical scandal has rocked Kano State after a Nigerian woman, Aishatu Umar, reportedly died four months after surgeons allegedly left a pair of scissors inside her stomach during an operation at Abubakar Imam Urology Center.
The heartbreaking incident has sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians demanding justice and accountability.
Routine Surgery That Turned Into a Nightmare
Aishatu Umar, a mother of five, underwent a surgical procedure at the hospital in September 2025. What was meant to be a routine operation soon became the beginning of unbearable suffering.
According to her family, shortly after the surgery, Aishatu began experiencing severe and persistent abdominal pain that never went away.
Despite repeatedly returning to the hospital to complain, she was allegedly sent home each time with only painkillers, without proper scans or investigations.
Four Months of Silent Pain
For four agonising months, Aishatu lived with constant pain, growing weaker by the day. Her family said no doctor detected the real cause of her condition, even as her health continued to deteriorate.
It was not until two days before her death that medical tests and scans were finally carried out.
What they revealed left the family in shock.
Shocking Discovery: Scissors Left Inside Her Body
Medical scans reportedly showed that a pair of surgical scissors had been forgotten inside her abdomen during the September operation.
Family members described the discovery as gross medical negligence, questioning how such a dangerous mistake could occur in a professional medical facility.
Corrective Surgery Ends in Tragedy
Once the error was discovered, Aishatu was rushed back for emergency corrective surgery to remove the scissors.
Sadly, she did not survive the operation.
She reportedly passed away in the early hours of Sunday, January 11, 2026, leaving behind her husband and five young children.
Relatives believe the prolonged presence of the scissors inside her body may have contributed directly to her death.
Family Breaks Silence
Confirming the incident on Facebook, Aishatu’s brother-in-law, Abubakar Mohammed, wrote an emotional post recounting the ordeal:
“The woman you see here is Aishatu Umar. She was my sister-in-law. She passed away around 1:00 AM. She is survived by her husband and five children.”
He added that after months of pain and repeated hospital visits, proper tests were only conducted two days before her death, revealing the forgotten surgical instrument.
“Is this not pure negligence? How can professional doctors forget scissors inside a patient? This tarnishes the reputation of healthcare workers and health authorities,” he wrote.
Calls for Government Investigation
The family has now called on the Kano State Government to urgently investigate the incident and take decisive action against those responsible.
As outrage continues to spread on social media, many Nigerians are demanding answers, accountability, and justice — not just for Aishatu Umar, but to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.
