“Only Infidelity” – X User Sparks Debate Over Jehovah’s Witness Divorce RulesA Nigerian social media user has stirred controversy online after sharing claims about marriage and divorce practices among Jehovah’s Witnesses, triggering mixed reactions from the public.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the man alleged that members of the religious group are only permitted to divorce their spouses on the grounds of infidelity, adding that reasons such as abuse or irreconcilable differences are not recognised as valid under the church’s teachings.

Claim Sparks Widespread Reactions

According to the user, the strict interpretation of divorce rules has, in some instances, led individuals to deliberately commit adultery in order to qualify for what is considered an “approved” divorce within the faith.

He claimed that the pressure created by the policy can push some members to act against the moral standards they are expected to uphold, a statement that quickly gained traction online.

The post generated strong reactions, with many users expressing shock at the alleged rigidity of the rule, while others questioned the accuracy of the claim.

One user commented, “Church and strict rules, it is well,” while another disagreed, writing, “This is a fat lie, so untrue.”

Debate Continues Online

The discussion has since evolved into a broader debate about religious doctrines, personal freedom, and how different faiths interpret marriage and divorce. While some users argued that the rules are stricter than many people realise, others insisted that the claims misrepresent the teachings of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

As of the time of reporting, the religious organisation has not responded to the viral claims. The conversation continues to draw attention, highlighting how sensitive and complex discussions around faith and marriage practices can be in the public space.
