Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a move that marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
The resignation was conveyed in a personally signed letter dated December 29, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ampang West Ward, Dasjak Sunday Longyol. The letter was obtained in Jos on Thursday.

In the letter, Governor Mutfwang explained that his decision was driven by the need to pursue purposeful leadership, clearer political direction, and improved service delivery for the people of Plateau State.
He expressed appreciation to the PDP for providing him the platform to participate in Nigeria’s democratic process and advance his political career.
Part of the letter reads:
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect.
I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process.
I appreciate the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me.
Given the realities of the moment, and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform.
Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”
The governor did not disclose the political party he intends to join.

Mutfwang’s resignation comes amid months of political speculation, with reports suggesting he has aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sources indicate that officials of the APC National Working Committee have already welcomed the Plateau governor and pledged support for his new political journey, although no formal defection ceremony has been announced.
