Nigeria have secured qualification for the Round of 16 at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Tunisia on Saturday night.
Super Eagles Take Control of Group C
The Super Eagles entered the encounter knowing that a win against the Carthage Eagles would put them firmly in control of Group C, having already opened their campaign with a 2–1 victory over Tanzania earlier in the week.
Tunisia, who had recorded an emphatic 3–0 win over Uganda in their opening match, were also pushing for early qualification.
Goals Seal Nigeria’s Progress
Nigeria took the lead before halftime when Victor Osimhen rose highest to head home the opening goal. The Super Eagles extended their advantage in the second half through goals from Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman, giving the team a commanding position in the contest.
Tunisia responded with a goal from Montassar Talbi, before Ali Al-Abdi converted a late penalty to reduce the deficit. Despite the late pressure, Nigeria held on to secure all three points.
Standings Update
With the result, Nigeria now have six points from two matches, guaranteeing progression to the knockout stage. Tunisia remain second in the group with three points, keeping their qualification hopes alive ahead of the final group fixture.
The Super Eagles’ strong start has boosted confidence among fans, as attention now turns to their final Group C match and preparations for the knockout phase.
