An unspecified number of travellers have reportedly lost their lives following a suspected bomb explosion along the Yar’Tasha–Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident was confirmed on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Command, Yazid Abubakar, who acknowledged that a blast occurred in the area earlier in the day.
Police Confirm Incident
Speaking in a telephone interview, the police spokesperson said details surrounding the explosion were still sketchy at the time of confirmation.
“I can confirm that there was a blast in that area, but the incident just happened. I can’t provide further details yet. I will give updates later,” Abubakar stated.
Authorities have not officially confirmed the exact cause of the explosion or the number of casualties involved.
Residents Suspect Bandit Involvement
Residents in the area alleged that the explosive device may have been planted by armed bandits who have been responsible for repeated attacks and insecurity across parts of Zamfara State. These claims, however, have not been independently verified by security agencies.

A video currently circulating on social media reportedly shows travellers fleeing the scene in panic following the explosion. The authenticity of the footage has not yet been officially verified.
