Details have emerged regarding the 47 Federal Unity Colleges ordered to shut down by the Federal Government due to the worsening security situation across the country.

According to DAILY POST, the directive was issued in a notice sent to all principals of Unity Colleges by Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, Director of Secondary Education, Office of the Minister of Education.

The decision follows recent armed attacks on schools in Kebbi and Niger states, where several students were abducted.

The notice read in part:

“Sequel to the recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breach, the Honourable Minister of Education has approved the immediate closure of 47 Federal Unity Colleges.”

The shutdown takes immediate effect.
