A young lady has triggered widespread discussion online after boldly listing the conditions she wants met before she can agree to marriage.
The lady, identified as Gra Xie on Facebook, shared her expectations in a post that has since gone viral, with many social media users debating her stance on culture, equality, and modern relationships.
No Bride Price, No Changing of Name
In her post, Gra Xie stated clearly that no bride price would be paid on her head, insisting she is not for sale.
She also said she would not change her surname, and if she has children, they would carry both her name and her husband’s name.
Equality and Shared Responsibilities
The lady stressed that marriage should be a partnership of equals, not a hierarchy.
She added that her future husband would not be her “head” or “leader,” and major decisions must be discussed together, with compromises made.
She also insisted that childcare duties such as feeding, bathing, and changing diapers must be shared equally.
Her Full List of Conditions
According to her:
- No bride price will be paid on my head for any reason.
- If we have children, they will bear both my name and your name.
- I am not going to add your name or surname to my name.
- The number of children we would birth will be my decision to make not yours.
- Aside carrying the pregnancy to term there is no other responsibility you cannot carry out e.g bathing the kids, feeding them, changing diapers etc.
- We both have equal rights and say so before any significant decision is made.
- You are not my head, you are not my leader. We are partners, we are equals, we are adults.
- We would have a court wedding.
- There’s no room for polygamy; the moment you decide to bring another woman, I have the right to leave.
- House chores will be outsourced.
