IMG 8915Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed says he will support Peter Obi if he returns to the Labour Party, stressing that their political relationship remains strong despite party differences.

Datti Speaks on Support for Peter Obi

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has said he remains willing to support Peter Obi politically if the former Anambra State governor does not secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Datti made this known during a recent interview, where he emphasized that his relationship with Obi remains cordial and built on mutual respect.

Presidential Ambition After Obi’s Exit

It will be recalled that Datti recently declared his intention to contest the presidency on the platform of the Labour Party following Peter Obi’s departure to the ADC.

He explained that his decision to seek the presidency was based on his belief in offering continued leadership and direction to the Labour Party, despite having previously contested as a vice-presidential candidate in the last general election.

Datti Addresses Party Loyalty and Political Future

Clarifying his stance, Datti noted that political ambition does not negate loyalty or personal relationships. According to him, his interest in the presidency is driven by principle and commitment to democratic ideals rather than personal rivalry.

He added that his decision was made in line with constitutional provisions and the evolving political landscape.

Relationship With Peter Obi Remains Strong

Datti further stated that he and Peter Obi continue to maintain a strong and respectful relationship, even though they are currently affiliated with different political parties.

“If Peter Obi does not get the ADC ticket and decides to return to the Labour Party, I will support him,” Datti said, reaffirming his openness to collaboration for what he described as the greater good of the country.

Focus on Unity and Democratic Values

He concluded by calling for unity among reform-minded political actors, stressing that national interest should always come above party lines and personal ambitions.
