The founder of Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, has finally opened up on the real reason he decided to join the race for Oyo State governor—despite heavy warnings from close allies and supporters.
Speaking during a live broadcast on his radio station on Monday, the popular broadcaster disclosed that his decision to contest the governorship under the Accord Party was not driven by ambition or pressure, but by what he described as divine direction.
“I Took It to God – And He Approved It”
Oriyomi revealed that before making his declaration, he carefully listened to two opposing camps: those urging him to run and those strongly advising him to stay away from politics.
According to him, he subjected all the advice to prayer.
“The people of Oyo, my lovers, especially my advisers who warned me against contesting, I thank you all,” he said.
“I listened to those who encouraged me and those who warned me. I tabled everything before God, and God approved my contesting.”
He explained that backing out after receiving what he believes is divine approval would amount to disobedience.
“I don’t want to disobey God because I want to please people. I believe you advised me out of love,” he added.
Seeks Forgiveness, Support From Skeptics
The broadcaster acknowledged that his decision may have disappointed some supporters and advisers, but appealed for understanding, forgiveness, and unity.
“If there’s anyone I have offended with this decision, I implore them to forgive me and support me now that I have declared my interest in the apex seat of the state.”
Oriyomi stressed that his ambition is rooted in service, not personal gain.
“I want to serve the people and not be like most corrupt politicians,” he said.

Addressing critics and naysayers, the Agidigbo FM boss dismissed claims that he lacks the structure or experience to win an election.
He expressed strong confidence in grassroots support, insisting that his popularity and connection with the people would speak for him at the polls.
“I believe I will win because the people are for me. I didn’t buy anyone to attend my declaration.”
He also made it clear that fear of losing or being rigged out no longer bothers him.
“We have moved past the stage of worrying whether I will be rigged out or lose. I am seeking all your support.”
A New Political Twist in Oyo
Oriyomi Hamzat’s entry into the governorship race has added a fresh dynamic to Oyo State politics, with many Nigerians keenly watching how the outspoken broadcaster’s popularity will translate into political strength.
