Lere Olayinka, a senior media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at the opposition coalition following a fresh political defection that has reignited debate ahead of the 2027 elections.

Olayinka’s reaction followed the defection of Abba Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abba Abubakar Joins APC, Declares Support for Tinubu

Reports indicate that Abba Abubakar not only defected to the APC but also openly pledged support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

The move has sparked widespread reactions, especially given that Atiku Abubakar remains associated with the opposition coalition operating under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

Olayinka Mocks Opposition, Questions Unity

Reacting via social media, Olayinka questioned how an opposition leader could preach coalition politics while his immediate family members are spread across different political parties.

According to him, the defection exposes confusion, lack of coordination, and internal contradictions within the opposition camp.

In a post that quickly went viral, Olayinka wrote:

“Atiku Abubakar is in ADC.

His son, Adamu, is the Commissioner for Works & Energy Development in the PDP government of Adamawa State.

Another of Atiku’s sons, Abba, has decamped to APC.

FATHER – ADC

SON – PDP

SON – APC

Una wey dey shout Kolision up and down will kuku get sense las las.

Hissssssssssssh.”

Online Reactions Explode

Olayinka’s post immediately triggered heated debates online, with APC supporters laughing off the opposition’s “coalition talk,” while critics accused him of personalising politics and ignoring the bigger issues facing Nigerians.

Supporters argue the development weakens the credibility of the opposition coalition, while others insist that political choices are personal, even within families.

2027 Drama Intensifies

With defections, counter-attacks, and coalition politics heating up, observers say this episode adds another layer of drama to the build-up toward the 2027 elections.

One thing is clear:

The battle for relevance, unity, and public perception has already begun — and it’s getting messier by the day.
