Announcement Made During Church Service
Speaking at the service at Sacred Heart Parish, the Senate President disclosed that he had filed nearly nine lawsuits against individuals he alleged had lied, defamed, and slandered his name.
According to him, a turning point came while he was listening to the priest’s sermon during the service.
“I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me and slandered my name. But as I listened to the priest, I suddenly realised he was speaking directly to me,” Akpabio said.
Decision to Forgive and Let Go
Moved by the message, Akpabio said he chose forgiveness over prolonged legal battles, adding that peace was more important than continuing the cases.
He then publicly instructed his legal team to discontinue all pending suits.
“Therefore, I hereby direct my solicitors to withdraw all lawsuits against them,” he stated.
Public Reactions
Akpabio’s decision has since generated discussions across political and social circles, with some describing it as a rare moment of reflection and restraint in Nigeria’s political space.
While opinions remain divided on the implications of the move, the Senate President’s action signals a choice of reconciliation over continued courtroom confrontation.
