Nigerian activist, Verydarkman, has recounted a previously undisclosed encounter with former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, following reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Musa as the next Minister of Defence.
In a detailed video posted online, Verydarkman revealed that he was once invited by top military authorities after he publicly criticised General Musa’s comments on the Yelwata massacre in Benue State.
Background: The Yelwata Tragedy
According to the activist, on June 14, 2025, suspected herdsmen attacked Yelwata community in Benue State, leaving many residents dead.
He visited the area the following day, June 15, documenting the aftermath and sharing graphic evidence that went viral, triggering nationwide outrage and pressure on security agencies.
Why the Military Summoned Him
Shortly after the massacre, General Musa appeared on TV to address the killings. Dissatisfied with the CDS’s remarks, Verydarkman publicly criticised him.
Two days later, he was informed that the military wanted to see him.
He was taken to a military base in Asokoro, where—unexpectedly—the door opened and General Musa himself walked in.

According to Verydarkman, the General dismissed everyone else in the room, then turned to him and said:
“I need your help.”
The activist said Musa asked for firsthand information on what he saw in Yelwata and any intelligence he had received from locals, including people familiar with the longstanding conflict involving some Fulani groups.
He explained that community members had sent him video evidence and background information long before the authorities arrived.
Musa Wanted Solutions, Not Fights — Activist
Verydarkman described the meeting as surprising, noting that it showed Musa was genuinely open to input from any credible source — even from a vocal critic.
“For the Chief of Defence Staff to call Verydarkman and say ‘I need your help,’ it shows he was truly looking for solutions. There was no pride,” he added.
